i'm back

So I've been absent from the blog world for awhile. Apparently, not many of my friends blog much anymore, and despite my small vacation from it, I still enjoy reading others' thoughts and sharing my own.

In the past couple of months, a lot has changed. I have graduated from Florida State, moved to North Carolina, said goodbye to some, and hello to others. (That is the abbreviated version.)

Since too much has happened to really fill in all of the details in one post, I'll keep it simple. As someone in my past used to say, "be brief, baby, be brief."

So briefly stated: All of this change is one of the best things that has happened to me. I am humbled by the fact that God has blessed me beyond what I deserve; beyond what I could have asked for.

I have started from scratch in this new place, and God has provided a place to live, an awesome roommate, a job, a church community (that is SO good), some wonderful new friends, and, most recently (meaning today), a really neat internship opportunity.

I could go on and on about all of these things, but I'm going to stick to the most recent development. Today I met with a guy from the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition. They work with drug users and addicts, transgender population, and sex workers. They do harm reduction, overdose prevention, support groups, advocacy; name the service and they probably try to do it.

And even though it isn't a paid position, I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it on. They are open to me doing anything I can to help. Basically, I bring all of my skills to the table, get some training along the way, and jump in.

Honestly, I'm kind of nervous, but I'm mainly excited. I'll be doing exactly what I want to do: building relationships with the people who have been rejected by society.

It's going to be a rough environment. Most of the people I'll be working alongside don't believe in God, and a lot of the people I'll be helping probably don't either. But I know God has no constraints, and he will be working even in the midst of such a lost place.

I'm praying that his grace and love will permeate through these hearts, and that his will is accomplished through my participation. If you would, I would love it if you'd be praying for this as well. I am too little and flawed to make impact, but I hope that God will choose to do great things through and around me.

Oh I love how he works things.

  1. Love the new look for the blog. Most of the people on this site don't use it anymore, so it is good to see someone other than me that is trying to use it. Glad things seem to be working out in NC. Hope things continue to. I'll be praying for you.
