I'm working on a grad application for Columbia's social work program. They happen to be one of the only colleges that starts the advanced standing program in the fall. And they also happen to be one of the best.
The application is due... well, now.
The thing is, I don't know if I'm ready to make a decision right now.
I'm in another country for goodness sake. How am I supposed to be deciding on grad school right now? And I'm only 20, going on 21.
The other thing is, one of my professors really thinks that I would fit better at UNC. And part of me really agrees.
But then part of me thinks about New York and gets excited. What if? What if I went to the big city and went to Columbia.
Do I finish my application and go to New York City where my sister is? Or do I wait for UNC, choose the smaller city feel, and find my own niche?
I'm not ready to make a decision, but deadlines are passing and my parents don't think I'll find a job when I graduate. My mom thinks I should apply now.
The kid inside of me is screaming: "I don't wanna grow up! I don't wanna make big kid decisions!"
So what do I do?
Anyone?
Sorry if I'm being obtuse, but if you apply right now, would you be committing to attend Columbia?
ReplyDeleteI know you're praying about it -- you'll make the right choice.
apply and have the option. then make the choices after you get in.
ReplyDeletei say apply and have the option.
ReplyDeleteand from what i hear, grad school really isn't growing up.
Also, there is a strong chance that I'll end up being in NYC after I graduate!
We could be NYC buddies!

ReplyDeleteWhen you close your eyes, inhale deeply, and meditate on next year, what do you see? when you close your eyes, inhale deeply, and meditate on God's will and where he is leading you next year, what do you see?
In the end, no matter where you attend, what matter's most is knowing you honestly reflected on where your talents will best be used as well as most needed :D
Any chance God is leading you to other options as well? Like a service year since you said you feel so young?
P.s. I too have thought of Columbia for grad school :D My issue is I am trying to discern if that is where I am supposed to go, or if I am convincing myself of that fact, lol...
P.s.s. Personally, I am attracted to Columbia b/c they actually have a concentration in International Social Work, which is unlike many other programs...
P.s.s.s.I love love love your posts!
